The unofficial state motto of the state to the south of my home state is "Show Me".
Some see "Show me" as an insult to Missourians - they're stupid, so they want you to demonstrate to them what you want them to do.
Some see "Show me" as a statement of mistrust - they don't automatically believe everything they're told and need some convincing before they'll accept it.
It's about an hour's drive to that state from here, so perhaps I've picked up some Missouri skepticism.
COVID-19 (a/k/a The ChiCom Flu). January 6. Russiagate. The Las Vegas shooting. JFK. MLK. Any of dozens of other incidents that have been used to justify increasing government authority or to justify limiting freedom.
